Hana Boulware | Economics and Mathematics (Melissa Dell, ECON)

Hana Boulware headshotHana is a rising sophomore in Winthrop House looking to concentrate in Economics and Mathematics. She is excited to be working with Professor Melissa Dell this summer on the “American Communities Computable Newspaper Database” which uses deep learning to compile data from historical newspapers. Outside of school, Hana loves being a part of the Asian American Dance Troupe, baking, and testing out all the boba places in Cambridge. 

Michal Goldstein | English with Psychology (Caroline Light, SWGS)

headshot Michal GoldsteinMichal is a rising senior in Lowell House from Palo Alto, California. She is concentrating in English with a secondary in Psychology and is particularly interested in studying injustices within the U.S.’s criminal justice system. This summer, she is looking forward to working with Professor Caroline Light on a project investigating the individual self-defense justification for firearm possession and use, and specifically the race and gender implications of armed self-defense. On campus, Michal writes and edits for The Harvard Crimson, advises first-year students, and volunteers with the Menstrual Equity Coalition. She also enjoys creative writing, ceramics, and long walks with friends by the Charles!

Sophia He | History and Economics/Statistics (Michael McCormick, HIST)

Sophie He headshotSophia is a rising sophomore from Newton, MA, in Leverett House planning on concentrating in History and Economics. She is interested in Quantitative History, Economic History, and Classics. This summer, she is working on a geodatabase with Professor Michael McCormick as a part of the Science of the Human Past Initiative to understand the landscapes of power in Africa from the time of Justinian to the Muslim conquest. In her free time, she enjoys reading, singing, and going on walks by the river.

Hillary Jean-Gilles | Neuroscience with Linguistics (Jesse Snedeker, PSYC)

Hillary Jean-Gilles headshotHillary is a rising senior in Adams House from Stoughton, Massachusetts. She is concentrating in neuroscience with a secondary in linguistics. Though she enjoys learning about language and the brain separately, she is also interested in exploring the ways in which the two are related. On campus, she is part of the classical music department of WHRB (Harvard Radio Broadcast). She enjoys going on walks, making digital collages, and journaling in her free time. 

Sophia LeBlanc | Psychology (John Weisz, PSYC)

headshot Sophia LeBlancSophia is a rising sophomore in Mather House planning to concentrate in psychology. Her interests include psychopathology, mental health awareness, and the intersections of identity, human experience, and treatment. She is excited to work in Professor John Weisz’s Lab for Youth Mental Health to evaluate the effectiveness of youth mental health services, contribute toward meta-analyses, and seek improvements in psychotherapy. On campus, Sophia performs show tunes with the Noteables, advocates for gender equality through GirlUp and the Women’s Cabinet, and writes for the Flyby Blog of The Harvard Crimson. In her free time, she loves singing, listening to music (especially Laufey), reading, and spending time with her loved ones.

Darcy Lin | Sociology (David Jones, HSCI)

Darcy Lin headshotDarcy is a rising sophomore who was born in San Francisco, but grew up in Hong Kong. She is interested in urbanism, education, community organizing, and East Asia. This summer she is working with Dr. David S. Jones and using newspaper archives to track heat waves in Boston in the 19th and 20th Century.

Leslie Nevarez | Government with Ethnicity, Migration, Rights (George Aumoithe, HIST/AAAS)

Leslie Nevarez headshotLeslie is an incoming junior in Quincy House concentrating in government with a secondary in ethnicity, migration, and rights, alongside a Spanish-language citation. This summer, she is eager to collaborate with Professor George Aumoithe on tracing the political, legal, and economic history of medical scarcity in the United States. Leslie’s academic interests lie in migration studies, redistricting, and public health and health law. On campus, she serves as a news editor for The Harvard Crimson and the Outreach Director for the Harvard Undergraduate Law Review. In her free time, Leslie enjoys baking sweets, meditating, and, most notably, sharing her love for her hometown, Brownsville, TX.

Agatha Nyarko | Social Studies (Caroline Light, SWGS)

Agatha Nyarko headshotAgatha is a rising junior concentrating in Social Studies and pursuing a citation in Spanish. She currently lives in Lowell House, but is originally from New York City. Her research interests trace the intersection between feminist theory and constitutional law. This summer, she will be studying American mythologies of gun violence and their relation to gender-based violence.

Ikenna Ogbogu | Computer Science and Economics (Rahul Singh, ECON)

Ikenna Ogbogu headshotIkenna is a rising sophomore from Los Angeles studying computer science and economics. Guided by his passions in AI and public policy, Ikenna is eager to contribute towards Professor Singh’s research this summer in integrating machine learning into new estimators for policy evaluation. In his free time, he likes to read, write, explore new music, and watch movies. 

Ved Pant | Applied Math in Economics and Social Studies (Pia Raffler, GOVT)

Ved Pant headshotVed is a rising sophomore from Mumbai in Mather House studying Applied Math. Guided by his interest in applying quantitative methods to the social sciences, he is working with Prof. Raffler this summer to study and model the relationship between politicians and bureaucrats at the level of local governance for over a hundred developing nations.

Amber Simons | Psychology with Studies of Women, Gender & Sexuality (Nicole Noll, PSYC/SWGS)

Amber Simons headshotAmber is a rising junior in Quincy studying Psychology with a secondary in Women, Gender, and Sexuality studies. This summer they are working with Dr. Noll on a project investigating gender expression. On campus they are involved with Harvard Undergraduate Queer Advocates and the BGLTQ+ office. In their free time Amber likes to watch drag race and explore Boston/Cambridge!  

Logan Smith | Psychology with Philosophy (Elizabeth Spelke, PSYC)

headshot Logan SmithLogan is a rising sophomore from Columbia Falls, Montana, concentrating in Philosophy and Psychology. He is excited to work with the Spelke Lab this summer, working on projects in developmental cognitive science with infants and children. Outside of class, he enjoys writing poetry, making music, biking, and hiking.

Summer Sun | Social Studies (Katie Giles, E. J. Safra Center for Ethics)

headshot Summer SunSummer Sun is a rising sophomore in Eliot House studying Social Studies. She’s particularly passionate about the intersection between education and public policy, and is thrilled to be working with the Democratic Knowledge Project this summer to renew K-12 civic education. On campus, Summer is involved with the Chinese Students Association and also writes for The Harvard Crimson. She also loves hiking, collecting stickers for her water bottle, and watching raccoon compilations. 

Sierra Valdez | Economics and Government (Adaner Usmani, SOCI)

headshot Sierra ValdezSierra is a rising junior in Kirkland House (the best house!) studying economics and government. This summer, she is excited to work with Professor Adaner Usmani on his project studying American mass incarceration from a historical and comparative perspective. On campus, Sierra serves on the leadership team for the Harvard College Debating Union, and she is an active member of Candela, Harvard’s latin dance troupe. In her spare time, she loves paddle boarding, dancing, and discovering cozy new bookstores and coffee shops.

Ada Vazzana | History & Science and Philosophy (Hannah Marcus, HSCI)

Ada Vazzana headshotAda is a rising junior from Winter Park, Florida. While living in Dunster House, she studies History & Science (and philosophy, too!). This summer, Ada is working with Professor Hannah Marcus in the Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments. For fun, Ada enjoys playing games with her friends and family, going to the gym, cooking, and reading. On campus, you can find her involved in HOTM, HCHAA, and HRSFA.

Sneha Yelamanchili | Anthropology and Chemical & Physical Biology (George Aumoithe, HIST/AAAS)

headshot Sneha YelamanchiliSneha is a rising junior studying anthropology and chemical & physical biology. She is a resident of Leverett House but was raised in southwestern Indiana. Her research interests include the evolution of health infrastructure, race and gender relations, and the connections between language and meaning. In her free time, she enjoys biking, reading, watching trashy television, and listening to considerably less trashy music.

Maha Zaidi | History of Science and Anthropology (Anne Harrington, HSCI)

Maha Zaidi is a rising senior at Harvard College. She is pursuing a double concentration in the History of Science and Social Anthropology with a secondary in Global Health and Health Policy. Maha is interested in organizations involving human rights, accessibility to equitable healthcare for low-income communities of color, and care for traumatic injuries such as traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury. In her free time, Maha loves film photography, collecting music, roller skating, and going to the movie theater! This summer, she is working alongside Professor Anne Harrington from the History of Science department on a project about the human stakes within consciousness studies, coma, brain death, and end-of-life care.

Stephanie Zaragoza | Psychology (Elika Bergelson, PSYC)

She is interested in clinical and developmental psychology, and is excited to continue working with Dr. Bergelson at the Harvard Lab for Developmental Studies this summer. In her free time, Stephanie enjoys reading, listening to music, and spending time with her dog, Coco.
